The pattern provides calculation and description of work for a pair of mitts to fit the hands of an adult woman, but you can use a smaller or bigger size hook to make other sizes. You can also adjust the length of the mitts by crocheting longer or shorter starting chain and the width by working more or less rows than indicated.
